Rent a Car in Dubai Airport Terminal 3: How to Avoid Unnecessary Payments Upon Receipt

Posted on September 15, 2025 by Christopher Caldwell

Dubai Airport (Terminal 3) is one of the largest in the world, with at least 35 car rental companies operating here: Speedy Drive Car Rental, Budget, Hertz, Adguard, Alamo, Dollar and others. You can take a car immediately after landing — conveniently, quickly and without unnecessary transfers.

Where are the additional fees hidden?

1. Airport pick-up fee

Many companies charge a surcharge for rent in the terminal: from 25 to 100 AED. This fee is not always reflected in the initial price. To avoid it, ask in advance or choose a rental 1-2 km from the terminal and get there by shuttle.

2. Toll Road Toll (Salik)

The salik system automatically charges 4 AED for each trip. Companies can add a service fee to this — please specify how such expenses are charged.

3. Fuel and penalty for “under-refuelling”

The “full → full” rule often applies. If you return a car with an incomplete tank, the company will charge the fuel price + service fee (sometimes +30-40%). It is better to fill up the tank to full, save the receipt.

4. Unnecessary kilometers

Mileage limits are 200-300 km per day with a fee for each extra kilometer (0.5–3 AED). If you plan to travel a lot, choose a fare with unlimited mileage.

5. Late delivery of cars

Being late by even an hour can result in writing off a whole day of rent. It is better to rent a car in advance.

6. Small fees

Speed fines (starting at 600 AED), co-driver fees, cleaning, or “minor damage” are often not included in the price. Mark all the existing damage on the car and take a picture of them.

How to avoid unnecessary expenses

  • Pick up a car not directly at the terminal, but at nearby offices — sometimes there is no airport surcharge.
  • Compare Salik fees and unlimited mileage right away.
  • Specify the fuel conditions — the “full-full” rule will help you save money.
  • Check the mileage limit and penalties for exceeding it.
  • Hand over your car 24-48 hours before departure and report any damage.
  • Upon receipt, carefully inspect the car, take a photo and ask to recognize the existing defects.

Company selection and rental conditions

Many budget friendly car rental companies are located right in the terminal, work 24/7 and offer a full range of services. Speedy Car Rental offers a no deposit option (deposit 2,000 AED, but there is a “zero deposit” option with a deductible) — especially convenient when paying by credit card. Many car rentals also operate through an online form, with no booking fees and a minimum rental period of 2 days; they have convenient rates and transparent deposits.

Car rental in Dubai Airport Terminal 3 is a convenient option, but it is important to consider in advance:

  • airport allowance
  • payment for Salik
  • fuel according to the full-full scheme
  • mileage limits and penalties
  • possible penalties and deposit

Before renting, compare the conditions and check both fares — at the terminal and nearby locations — and inspect the car in advance. This preparation ensures a smooth experience. Renting through rent a car in Dubai helps you avoid unexpected overpayments while enjoying comfort and freedom of movement at no extra cost.
